It takes a while to index the 80 gigabyte drive and then it works as I like it. Spotlight does not automatically index the drive, and I need to run: sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/GoogleDrive/ every time I boot the machine up. However, it seems I am having problems indexing the drive with Spotlight. I rely on Google Drive file stream for my work and I have so far managed to successfully install the program. Working with drive on browser works, but of course you know why they created the app anyway at the first place.

Since it has only very limited space of physical drive, I desperately need to work with my FileStream. My device is macbook pro retina 13' 2015, currently running Big Sur 11.0.1.

  • I tried to disable the gatekeeper (sudo spctl -master-disable) and check the third option permission (all apps) plus restarting, it didn't help.
  • I tried the offered solution/patch on here:, and it didn't help.
  • I tried to reset the permission setting using "tccutil reset all " but it answered me with "tccutil: Failed to reset all approval status for ".
  • I made sure access to full drive was already checked.
  • Changing the check on either "appstore" or "appstore and identified developer" (plus restarting in between) did not help.
  • The problem is, I can't find any "allow" button and therefore cannot give the permission needed. Google Drive File Stream failed to work (stopped working) after a notification mentioning that I have to give permission at privacy setting.
